Abstract
The development of information and communication technology systems makes the process of interaction between humans easier. Social media as a medium for representing these interactions is expected to be able to provide goodness for humanity by creating new communication patterns. Social media has become a forum for all humans to communicate and is also an important need for many people, so many people use social media every day, including Indonesian people. Social media basically provides many benefits to the wider community if we use it correctly according to existing ethics. If social media ethics are not implemented properly then what will happen will be many problems that will arise which can harm many parties. These problems can take the form of hoaxes and hate speech. This is what makes ethics in social media very important. However, what is happening now is the opposite, the use of social media has caused a myriad of problems, including a cultural shift from traditional culture to digital culture. The generation that grew up in digital culture has a tendency to be aloof (desocialization). However, like a double-edged sword, on the one hand, social media also has many benefits. Therefore, ethics in using social media in Indonesia need to be considered considering that this is regulated by the law on information and electronic transactions (UU ITE). This writing was written to discuss all the problems caused by social media and aims to ensure that social media can be used more wisely by using descriptive-analytical literature methods. The results and conclusions of this writing are that the breadth of information should be sorted wisely without violating the norms and values that apply in social life. Freedom of expression must adhere to good communication ethics and self-control.
