Hubungan Kebebasan dan Tanggung Jawab dalam Profesi Advokat

Abstract
To carry out the rule of law principles, the role and function of an advocate as a free, independent and responsible profession is a role that is needed by the whole community. Advocates are often needed on many occasions both inside and outside of litigation. As an important profession in law enforcement, the advocate profession is required to maintain and maintain the nobility of the advocate profession. The behavior of an advocate who adheres to the code of ethics reflects an attitude of obedience to God Almighty, the Law on Advocates, and their Clients. Therefore, the freedom of an advocate must be fought for, so that it is worthy of being called officium nobile. The integrity of an advocate is seen as having to be on a par with the freedom he gets, his independence, and a sense of responsibility. The purpose of writing this article is to examine how freedom of advocates cannot be separated from their responsibilities based on a code of ethics. The writing method that will be used is the statutory approach and secondary data literature study by means of an inventory of secondary legal materials, the secondary legal materials used are in the form of scientific papers, journals, articles, and literature related to the advocate profession. The results of this study are that the advocate profession is an honorable profession (officium nobile), which means that as an advocate one must maintain his integrity and behave according to the advocate's code of ethics. Advocates devote themselves to the interests of society and for law enforcement based on justice, and participate in upholding human rights. In addition, advocates are free in their defense, not bound by their client's orders and are not discriminating against the cases they are defending. In defending his client, advocates may not violate applicable legal rules and may not violate moral principles, and may not harm the interests of others.
