Main Article Content
Abstract
Freedom of speech and issues of hatred and discrimination have garnered attention in a society increasingly connected through social media. These issues raise questions about the balance between an individual's right to speak freely and the protection against hate speech and discrimination. This research aims to investigate the relationship between the ethics of freedom of speech and the issues of hatred and discrimination in the public sphere, as well as to understand the extent to which limitations on freedom of speech can be applied without compromising human rights. The method used is descriptive qualitative research, conducted by observing subjects and research objects based on existing facts. The normative juridical approach is the research method used in legal studies to analyze legal regulations and existing norms. The research method utilized is literature review or literature study, relying on various literary sources to obtain research data. The approach used is qualitative because the data obtained consists of words or descriptions. The research findings reveal the complexity of finding a balance between freedom of speech and the protection of individuals or groups from hate speech. Limitations on freedom of speech are necessary, but their application requires careful ethical and legal considerations to avoid compromising individual rights.
