Abstract
Hans Kelsen, a legal positivist, presented his philosophical views through his famous Pure Legal Theory. Within the framework of his theory, he emphasized that legal formation must be independent without being influenced by external factors such as psychological, sociological, historical, political, and even ethical. The aim of this research is to explore the core of Hans Kelsen's philosophical thinking in The Pure Theory of Law and its impact on the development of legal science. The research method used is basic research (fundamental research) with a philosophical and normative approach. The research results show that The Pure Theory of Law is first of all a closed system or pure legal system, which must be free from non-legal elements. Second, the legal concept introduced by Hans Kelsen clearly plays an important role in the evolution of legal science, both in concept and in the process of legal formation and practice.
