Abstract
This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods which aim to determine people's behavior in using the internet and how far the internet has developed, especially in Indonesia. The results of the research can be concluded that there are still many people who do not understand how to use the internet nowadays, usually people who do not understand how to use the internet have an age range of 30-50 years where they are too old to want to learn to use the internet, therefore there are still a lot of people who became victims of hoaxes. What we hope is that people can begin to be able to differentiate between various types of information and protect personal safety, which is characterized by an attitude of covering up private information, using social media appropriately, and not being tempted by calls for radicalism and terrorism. In its role, the government also plays an important role in this matter, as a basis for society to be able to limit incoming information and to sort positive and negative things so that people can be more comfortable on the internet. Based on the laws in force in Indonesia regarding internet ethics as stated in Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning information and transactions, the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE), the Copyright Law, body regulations. Indonesian telecommunications regulations (BRTI), regulations regarding personal data protection, positive internet policies, consumer protection regulations and social media and digital content regulations. With these regulations and laws, the government and society have the right to limit things on the Internet within a positive scope and reduce the possibility of bad things happening when surfing the Internet, such as fraud, online loans, leaking of personal data and others.
