Abstract

Since the Covid-19 pandemic declined, cases of kidney failure in children in Indonesia have been increasing from time to time. The government has concluded that the cases of kidney failure that have befallen hundreds of children in Indonesia are the result of syrup drugs containing ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG). The ban on the use of syrup is a very dilemmatic decision for mothers in Indonesia. Given that children cannot yet swallow tablets or capsules, the government is advised to recommend drugs that are safe for use for children that do not cause acute kidney failure. The purpose of this research is to find out the issues of professionalism and business ethics in drug marketing and to add a moral burden to increase the degree of society. The research method that researchers use is descriptive analysis method using literature study as material for this research. Drug marketing does not only think about how the company's drugs or products are sold, but the pharmaceutical industry must also create a sense of security and consumer confidence in the products being sold. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (KEMENKES RI) appealed directly to the public to stop using syrup on children and asked pharmacists and other health workers not to prescribe syrup for the time being. Ethics and professionalism are needed in drug marketing efforts to prevent marketing practices that are not up to standard which can later lead to unfair competition and can be detrimental to consumers. The results of our research found that pharmaceutical companies have not fully implemented business ethics and professionalism regarding drug marketing so that this can harm other people causing kidney failure in their consumers.
