Konsep Demokrasi Empedocles

Abstract

The concept of democracy in Empedocles' thought presents significant relevance in social and political contexts. Empedocles, an ancient Greek philosopher and poet also had a significant influence on cosmology and natural philosophy thinking. The aim of this research is to investigate Empedocles' contribution to the development of exact science, explore the relevance of Empedocles' concept of democracy to social and political reality, and to highlight its practical implications in building an inclusive and sustainable political system. This research aims to investigate Empedocles' philosophical thought using a qualitative approach that places his work in its cultural and historical context, interpreting his contribution to cosmological thought within a historical philosophical framework. The results of this research show that Empedocles' thinking not only reflects a philosophical understanding of the universe but also reflects the cultural and political context of that time. His concepts of the four elements and cosmic principles are understood within the framework of historical philosophical thought, making it possible to better appreciate his contribution. Empedocles' thoughts on democracy provide valuable insight into building a political system that respects democratic values, addresses contemporary challenges, and fulfills the aspirations of equality and justice, equality and prosperity for all citizens.
